March 25th, 2006 - Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) began testing the Venom Competition Coupe at the Texas Mile - a standing mile event held in Goliad, TX (about 2.5 hrs southwest of Houston). The Venom Competition Coupe (VCC) with just 480 rear wheel hp ran 161 in the standing mile. By removing the rear wing the VCC ran 170.8 mph in the mile.

We also ran our GT700 powered Ford GT at the Texas Mile. With "Nitro Nick" behind the wheel, we set the highest speed for a street car on Saturday with an impressive 185.5 mph run!
Commander Chris "Fidel" Castro, flight operations officer, hosted the Hennessey team at Lemoore Naval Air Station for MOTOR TREND's 2006 Standing Mile Shootout. Kyle Kennedy's Venom 1000 Twin Turbo SRT Coupe took KING OF THE HILL honors with a 217.9 mph standing mile run.
